Plate 23 from the second set of Thomas and William Daniell’s ‘Oriental Scenery.’ This south-eastern view of the rock at Tiruchchirappalli shows the staircase that climbs to the massive complex of the Shiva temple. Along the steps are some cave-temples. On the right, in the aquatint, there is a part of the dilapidated wall that used to enclose the fortified outpost of the rock.
